Soldier's Promise
Tears on my face that I have cried
Blood that has ran down my arms has finally dried
Silence grows and creeps as I sit watching the time
Looking out a shattered window how could the world be so blind
Others sitting next to me knowing they are feeling the same wonder inside
Days seem to run together as if hate never asks why
Anyone could be so hurtful that many volunteer to die
But a hope exists so strong this pain would end tonight
That a peaceful tomorrow may be somewhere in sight
Looking up at the stars searching for some kind of sign
Many hearts wonder will another day have to go by
Full of questions and screams because another had to fly
Putting everything into what is believed to be right
Despite the many loved that are gone many others get to see the sun rise
The next morning from the little sleep had become opened eyes
Glance to the horizon and smile because hate wants to apologize
Overwhelming feelings flood the eyes realizing now we can go home and live life
Reuniting souls rest more at ease everything will be alright
Love and determination got us through to see the morning light
Gone but not forgotten and the ones that I stand beside
Tell me how can you leave someone risking their life behind
So that you can see your loved ones and kiss your family goodnight
