Jeff Rovin, author of the Illustrated Encyclopedia of Cartoon Animals, brings you the 10 most bizarre animal superheroes who are very friendly to human and have the power to protect the world. They are very funny and they are all pretty weird also.
1. Captain Carrot:A super-powered bunny from another dimension -- he can "bunny hop" great heights, among many other powers -- this DC Comics character from the 1980s is the leader of the Zoo Crew, which includes the speedy turtle Fastback, magician kitten Alley-Kat-Abra, the stretchable Rubberduck, and the magnetically charged Yankee Poodle.

2. Batfink:It was probably inevitable: a crime fighting bat. No, not a batman but an actual winged rodent. In addition to super-sonar, the 1960s animated TV character possessed martial arts skills and, of course, he could fly. Oh, and he drove around in the Batillac, which was actually a Volkswagen.

3. Fearless Fly:Another animated TV character from the 1960s, this bad bug was timid Hiram Fly who dons supersonic glasses to become the costumed Fearless Fly -- who can fly faster than light and has super-strength. Super for a fly, anyway.

4. Wonder Wart-Hog:The winner by a snout! By swallowing a power pill, this underground comics character from the 1960s turns into a super powered wart hog. When he isn't fighting crime, he wears a human mask and poses as reporter Philbert Desenex.

5. Beppo the Super Monkey:Jor-El may have been a great Kryptonian scientist, but when he sent his son Kal-El toEarth as a baby he didn't notice that a monkey stowed away on the rocket ship. On earth, the wiry Beppo has the same powers as his master Superman. The monkey is a member of the Legion of Super-Pets along with Krypto (who was sent to earth in a test rocket), Comet the Super-Horse (a centaur who was turned all-horse by a wizard), and Streaky the Super-Cat (who gets superpowers from the mysterious X-Kryptonite).

6. Alien Ducklings:These comic book heroes from the 1980s are actually alien beings who land on a farm and,assuming that water fowl are the dominant species, use most of their energy to assume duck forms. One of them has enough power left over to become the costumed Aquaduck, who possesses super powers thanks to a psychic link with the metawaves of fish. Whatever that means.

7. Spider-Ham:More than 20 years before Homer Simpson got his pet Spider-Pig, Marvel Comics published the adventures of Peter Porker, a walking, talking pig version of Spider-Man. Also appearing in the strip were the ferocious Hulk Bunny, Deerdevil -- the Cloven-hooved Mammal Without Fear -- Croctor Strange, and Nick Furry, Agent of S.H.E.E.P., among others.

8.Congorilla:This 1950s DC comic book character is actually explorer-ecologist Congo Bill who, for trying to save the life of a witch doctor, is given a ring that allows him to transfer his brain,
for one hour at a time, into the body of the tribe's deity, a golden gorilla.

9.Ace the Bat Hound:Ace is Batman's German shepherd, who the Caped Crusader rescued from drowning. There's actually a little rig in the Bat cave so this comic book canine can slip into his black mask and bat-symbol collar.

10.Dynomutt:The bumbling pooch sidekick to the superhero Blue Falcon, the 1970s cartoon hero is described as "stronger than a train with a so-so brain...scare less, a little too careless." His powers derive from a strength power pack in his belt.

A VENOMOUS spider is spreading across Britain due to climate change, experts warned yesterday.

The False Widow — cousin of the Black Widow — carries enough poison to kill a human.

It first arrived in Devon from the Canary Islands 140 years ago.

But it has now set up colonies in Gloucestershire and Wiltshire after a series of mild winters.

Gran Lyn Mitchell, 52, fell into a coma after being bitten as she slept at home in Egremont, Cumbria, in January.

Joanne West, 32, was temporarily paralysed by a False Widow on her bed three months later in Fareham, Hants.

The purple and black creature looks similar to a Black Widow, but has a smaller body — the size of a 1p piece.

Matt Shardlow, director of charity Buglife, said: “They may also have evolved to cope with the colder weather.”

The first wave power machine made of rubber, which resembles a giant swimming sea-snake, could be generating energy for 50,000 homes in the UK within five years, its developers said today.

The "Anaconda" is 200 metres long and made almost entirely of a rubber tube, making it much more resilient to surviving in the ocean. Each device is anchored to the ocean floor but moves with the waves, generating enough energy to power 1,000 homes.

The plan is to have "shoals" or "schools" of the devices around the coast, where they would be harnessed to "swim" just below the surface.

Groups of 50 anacondas could each generate enough electricity to power 50,000 homes for an "excitingly low" cost, the developers Checkmate Group said. Although it is difficult to put a figure on the cost at the moment the developers are confident it will be cheaper than a wind farm generating the equivalent amount of power and less controversial in terms of public protest since the devices will be below the sea. It is hoped the first anacondas will be deployed off the coast by 2014.

Paul Auston, chairman of Checkmate, said the anaconda could help to meet EU targets to source 15 per cent of all the UK's energy needs from renewables by 2020 - the lion's share of which is currently expected to be met by wind power.

He said: "I think wave power has always been as the poor relation of wind energy, but a lot of people are resentful of wind turbines on their doorstep, or in vast tracts of coastal waters.

"What we're offering through Checkmate is a new technology which you can't see, it's under the water so it's not as intrusive and it's made of a natural material."

A fish with a human face is making waves in South Korea. The 'humanoid' carp are attracting attention in the town of Chongju, South Korea.

The "humanoid" carp are attracting attention in the town of Chongju in the centre of the country where they live in a small pond.

They are believed to be hybrid descendants of two carp species – the carp and the leather carp, also known as a tangerine fish.

Both fish are females and more than three feet long. They appear to have distinctive human noses, eyes and lips.

The fish live in a pond behind the home of a 64-year old South Korean man and have been there since 1986 although their looks are only just starting to attract attention.

"My fish have been getting more and more human for the past couple of years," the owner said.

He added that he knows of other fish with similar features, and as they are both females it will be impossible for them to breed and have fish-faced offspring.

This is the second time in recent months that carp have made headlines in Asia. Last November a shoal of the fish in Changsha, in China's Hunan Province turned on a duck who landed on their lake looking for food.

The Koi carp took exception to the intruder and fought back, bunching together into a seething mass to assert their authority, forcing the duck to fly away.
